Brief

Build concistancy and enhance simplicy

When I started at OMNINET, they had a outdated design system only for the web client, but missing for the since 20 years in use Windows client, which was used by around 90% of the customer base back then. I got asked to improve both front ends together with my colleagues because the goal was to match both systems in design and usability as well as slowly starting to let the customers switch to the web client and increase the customer base for this front end.

Challenge

Mixing 20 yeary of history for the modern world

The OMNITRACKER is a powerful, more than 20 years old system that was heavily used by massive clients like Deutsche Bahn or Bundesnetzagentur. On one hand, we had to simplify the Windows Client and need to consider older systems like Windows XP and older were this is still running on and at the same time transfering and improving features for the web clieant which also includes tabled and phone use. This was a massive challenge short to mid term. We started by building a user research group togehter with a mixture of our big, medium and small customers to understand user needs and find ways to interate on the Windows system and bring over everything more towads the web client. I had to have close daily alignments with the web and windows development teams to understand technical limitations and requirements.

Final Solution

Create a visual and digital system that signals motion and progress.

We streamlined Blackwell’s brand identity into a sharper, kinetic system. The website introduced interactive configurators and range simulations, while campaign storytelling fused historical milestones with EV innovation. The central line “Drive Forward” became a bridge between tradition and progress.

Results

Bringin both worlds together

As a results of all user group discussions for user research and technical restrictions and requirements, I decided to build a design system and lives in both worlds. Instead of goind the more usual way to improve not only usability and userflows, we started with the smallest elements and the details and worked backwords.
